Hey folks! This is John here, and yes I am trying this blog thing again. I am planning on renaming this site (as soon as I figure out how to do that!) The Old Guys Survival Guide. I survived the Marine Corps, the Texas and Oklahoma oilfields, and teaching in public and private schools in Texas and Tennessee for years without a problem in the world. But as soon as I retired in 2016 I suddenly found myself struggling just to get through the day. I was afraid of no longer being relevant, of no longer having a purpose to exist in this world. I KNEW that the best way to get over that kind of blue funk was to G.O.M.A. – Get Off My Ass and go do something! So that is what I am going to write about here.
I am starting a new business enterprise called Old Guys Creativity Enterprises. Most people think that us retired people are near or at the end of our practical usefulness, and that we lack the energy, creativity, or cognitive ability to be creative. I am here to tell you that is a bunch of bovine scatology! I have several things going right now, including (but NEVER limited to):
- Audiobook / Voice Over Narration;
- Fiction and non fiction writing
- Photography
- Videography
And of course – blogging!
I will cover a LOT of topics in this blog, including my opinionated and mindless rants about the state of the world, life as an American expatriate living in the Philippines, travel, adventure, my cat, my writing, so on and so on.
There is a serious need for information out there regarding the retired life that DOESN’T focus on money or decrepitude. As far as money goes, you either saved it or you did not, and you can read every Dave Ramsey book out there and it won’t make a bit of difference if you didn’t save the money. And as far as decrepitude goes, who the hell wants to be reminded about that?
I am going to blog about what’s going on with me. Also, I won’t lie to you, I hope you will at least take a look at my short stories and books, photographs, videos, and audiobooks, all available of course for a reasonable cost.
