Hi!  My name is John Ziegler.  Welcome to my blog!  In 2016 I retired as a Tennessee school teacher and moved with my wife of over 40 years to the Philippines.  We now live in the municipality of San Andres, located on the island province of Catanduanes.  Catanduanes is located on the eastern side of the archipelago.  We didn’t move here ‘cold turkey’ – my wife was born and raised here in San Andres and I spent several years in the Philippines myself – 40 years ago!

I will use this blog to talk about the joy and challenges of life here, and how it is different yet very much the same as our life in rural middle Tennessee.  Our entire life has been based on living where we are, with what we have.  I would hope that some of our solutions to challenges here would be of value to some of you, and that documenting some of the many mistakes and screw-ups we have made will keep you from making the same mistakes.

I keep myself occupied in retirement by writing and vlogging a little on YouTube.  As I release new books, short stories, and flash fiction I will of course shamelessly plug them here.  I am in the process of revising my YouTube channel, and will talk about that here.

Please do not hesitate to leave comments, especially praise and flattery! – but criticism is also valuable to me.  Just don’t talk about Mom!

I am looking forward to you joining us on the journey!
